As a photographer and graphic designer, I challenge myself to create images from specimens that I grow, collect, or things that call to me. I approach this by looking at these objects through a close-up view of color, form, and texture.
I developed this unusual approach to capturing images without a conventional camera, instead, I employ a flatbed scanner. This allows for greater-than-life scale and clarity of minute details, resulting in a unique perspective for the viewer.
My images show objects abstracted against a stark black background, allowing the mystery of each specimen to rise to the forefront.
Prints include the signature of Debra Burger and are archival pigment prints on premium matte art paper. Each print includes a two inch white border.
